As far as gaming championships go, there’s nothing bigger and better in India than the GameBox National Championship (GNC) organised by Reliance World. It’s an annual event that online gaming enthusiasts all over India look forward to eagerly.
This year’s event was announced in Jan 2007 and online gamers poured in at Reliance World in droves to register for the GameBox National Championship 2007. GNC 2007 attracted more than 10000 registrations from across India.
Four single player games—Age of Mythology, Half-Life 2-Deathmatch, Need for Speed: Underground and Warcraft III–Frozen Throne and one multiplayer game, Counter-Strike 1.6, were chosen for the tournament.
The event was held in four different levels with gamers competing at store, circle, zonal and national level as well as during the mock tourneys.
The finals of the GameBox National Championship 2007 were held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi during SKOAR 2007, a gaming expo. Zonal level winners from various parts of India were flown in to Delhi to participate in the national finals. The Fnatic team—reigning CPL Champions and the number 1 team in the world in Counter-Strike—were also invited to the GameBox National Championship 2007.
The event drew huge participation from gaming enthusiasts across the country and not just hardcore gamers but also curious onlookers crowded the Reliance World GNC 2007 game zone.
The highlight of the event was the encounter between the world’s top Counter-Strike team, Fnatic and the Counter-Strike winners of the GameBox National Championship 2007. The exhibition matches played between the two teams were truly exciting and were backed by loud cheering. VJs Cyrus (Sahukar) and Anusha visited the venue and encouraged the teams and joined in the cheering.
